It’s official — I took the leap of faith and my Kickstarter campaign is live! I’ve been working hard behind the scenes to bring this to life, and I’m so excited to finally share it with you. Please take a moment to check it out and 'Read All About It!' Here’s the link:
Here’s something else I’m really excited to share: I’ll be publishing my very first book - a companion songbook for the new album, Strange Ballet. I designed the cover myself, and my talented sound engineer, Dan Towey, is handling the transcriptions.
Amid the hustle of launching my Kickstarter campaign and preparing for a performance in Ames tomorrow (June 24), I’ve also been working on a new song. I mentioned it in my last post and asked you to stay tuned — and I’m happy to say it’s about two-thirds finished!
As usual, I find myself thinking about this song almost nonstop. On my two-mile walk this morning, I was running lines through my head, trying to crack the third verse. At home, whether I’m doing dishes or making supper, I often have to drop everything and rush to the living room — where my guitars are taking up way too much space — just to jot down a new lyric. It feels a bit chaotic, but it’s the kind of chaos that can’t, and maybe shouldn’t be cured.
I still prefer to write my songs the old-fashioned way — with a pen or pencil in a spiral notebook. It may be a bit antiquated, but it’s what works best for me. By the time a song is finished, I’ve usually gone through five or six pages. I try not to go with the first thing that comes to mind. Instead, it’s a process of excavation — digging deeper and deeper until I unearth those sweet lyrical nuggets I’ve been searching for.
So, I must end this by saying, I hope to present the NEW SONG in my next post - with the most stunning lyrics imaginable!
By the way… the above performance has - thankfully - been moved indoors. YAY!
