This song was written a few years ago and will be included in my soon to be released, new album titled, Strange Ballet.
It was inspired to write this song by a girl I admired in high school. She was a year ahead of me and was so graceful and beautiful and I remember wishing I could be more like her. The story that unfolds in the song is purely fictional, though I did hear rumors that she went on to become a writer. Who knows for sure?
This song is an example of taking something from your past that, for whatever reason, made an impression on you and is stamped into your memory.
I remember watching this girl, Rachel, (not her real name) leave the high school through the main lobby doors. Her hair was tucked inside her coat, which I thought was very odd, seeing how it was so beautiful and we girls almost always flipped our hair outside of our winter coats. Songs are born from moments like this. Strange.
You’ll notice the last line of each verse serves as the chorus.
On the album you’ll hear this tune all shiny and polished with a full band including bass, drums and electric guitar. I love the way it sounds with these great musicians: Bruce Millard on electric guitar, Dan Towey on bass, Jim White on drums, me on acoustic guitar and vocals
The Poems Rachel Wrote
Rachel was a beauty in her prime A modest, graceful goddess Behind the times Rachel wore her hair Tucked inside her coat No one read the poems Rachel wrote Rachel poured her heart out On every page Rachel tore the part out about the rage Writing in third person Poetry and prose No one read the poems Rachel wrote Rachel moved to the city and disappeared They say she slept in the parks For several years For such a quiet beauty No one took much note No one read the poems Rachel wrote Rachel found her place out in the rain Talking to herself, in a meaningless refrain No one understood a word that Rachel spoke And no one read the poems Rachel wrote No one read the poems No one read the poems Rachel wrote
I’ve just a little over a week until my Kickstarter campaign comes to an end. I still have a ways to go to reach my goal. This campaign is a meaningful way to support the recording and production of my new album. There’s an interesting back story behind the album. Just click the link above to read all about it.
There are multiple rewards waiting for you, should you decide to support this recording project. Example: Have you written something that you’d like to put to music? Maybe as a gift for someone special? If so, my “Let’s Collaborate” reward is perfect for you. We create a song together with you supplying the lyrics and me supplying the music!
Also - I’m honored to be given the Kickstarter “Project We Love” award. They liked my campaign so much they gave me this nifty badge to include in my social media.
I poured my heart and soul into this recording project and the Kickstarter campaign, so it truly means a lot to receive such kind recognition. THANK YOU KICKSTARTER
For subscribing and reading and pledging…I THANK YOU from my heart! - Carol
